Construction has begun on 3XN’s first project in India. Aesthetically inspired by local foliage, the 136-meter “Grove Towers” are designed to interweave at their base, much like the roots of the native mangrove trees. These lower, “interwoven” floors will house retail establishments, while the upper floors will be given over to residential units.
This project is also distinguished for the involvement of GXN, 3XN’s innovation unit, which took part in the design of the towers’ façade. This façade, which incorporates more than 2500 square meters of vertical garden space, will help reduce local CO2 levels, inhibit direct sunlight in the apartments, and facilitate natural ventilation. It is hoped that the building will achieve LEED Gold certification.
Kim Herforth Nielsen, Principal and Creative Director for 3XN, stated: “With this design for Grove Towers, we wanted to create something special for Mumbaikars and Ornate Spaces. Each time I visit, I am overwhelmed at how much I see the strength of community in all aspects of Indian life. I want this to be a vertical community that brings people together, and becomes a setting for growth and life.”
The Grove Towers will take approximately three years to construct.
